Little Lefty?

Supposedly handedness develops between two and three years of age. Wyatt appears to be left handed. He has always eaten with his left hand as long as I can recall. He colors with that hand and it uses it for most of his "work" such as hammering and watering plants. He often uses the left foot to kick. I think this is really strange since no one in our families is left handed (at least that I know of). It will be interesting to see if he is really left handed, but it sure seems like he is. I regard left-handed folks as rather curious, so I will have to research whether this requires any special accommodation (other than lefty scissors).

I have always had an odd fascination with left-handed men--at least two boyfriends, a few crushes, and my husband were all lefties--so from my perspective, this development is very cool. My MIL says Mike showed signs of left-handedness from an early age, even before he was a year old.

My observation of lefties is that they often seem to be at least a little ambidextrous. Maybe that's because most things in our world are designed for righties.

P.S. You know that Wyatt's odds of being a big league baseball player, especially a pitcher, increase tremendously if he is a southpaw. ;-)

Wasn't Ross also a lefty before going to Kindergarten? I think Mom said I used my left hand also. I do know that me and my dad are both left-eye dominant-- usually hand dominance goes with eye dominance. It means that we shoot guns and bows-and-arrows and such like a left-handed person. I discovered this in summer camp when I was 11. I think my dad was also a Lefty-- turned to a Righty in school when he was younger. A little known fact: Our dad is an extremely talented artist! He NEVER uses it but, the few times I have seen him draw something, it was amazing and he does it effortlessly. I could never understand how someone could have so much talent and completely disregard it!!!
