| Zoo time! |
After three long years, the Hendersons finally got to go on vacation! We took Wyatt to San Diego and Maine in 2010, but then got grounded by pregnancy complications, maternity leave, and the never-ending trial (which still has not concluded, btw). Anyway, we bravely (foolishly?) decided that we really needed a get away even if it meant taking a very independent 21 month-old on an airplane. We packed up the kids and Bobo (who was desperately needed to handle Wallis and who also was very much needing a vacation) and went to San Deigo. The non-stop three-hour flight was trying but manageable. Wyatt was ridiculously excited. He told us how much loved us every 17 minutes for the past month leading up to the trip. He traveled with two tiny backpacks. He was nothing less than awesome the entire trip. He soothed, waited on, and tolerated his sister's wild ways. He shared with her without reservation and tried to sweet talk her when she was crying. He told us he loved us. And what a great time he was having. A million times. He laughed and laughed. And took naps every day. He had a fabulous time and made it so worth it to take an out-of-sorts toddler on a trip to California. He investigated the tide pools at great length and took pictures with his water camera to show his friends back at school.
Ross, Bobo and I had a really good time, too. Wallis, eh. She liked the idea of the beach but the sand and wind and cool weather became a bit much for her. And the helicopters that fly over Coronado Island (where the SEALS train) were not a hit with her. Wyatt, of course, loved them. And never cared that his lips were blue and his crack full of sand!
We were only gone four days and that was quite enough for the little one. The rests of us worked around her screaming and had a pretty good time. Hopefully we will be back soon. Can't get enough of that perfect weather and beautiful beaches.
