Wyatt had his last day of preschool on Thursday. He's been at the Open Door School since he was six months old. He will continue to be an after school kid there come Monday. This big boy is starting kindergarten. Time goes by in a flash. Last week we got to go to the elementary school and meet his new teacher. We learned that at the very last minute Wyatt's best preschool buddy got his transfer and would not only be at the same school, but in the same class as Wyatt. As is That Hazel Girl, whom Wyatt adores. He's a lucky little guy. Wyatt also made a new friend who is half Aussie and pees outdoors! Wyatt is one-eighth Aussie and sometimes pees outdoors (but has learned that we don't have to tell people about our toileting habits!).
Wyatt is ready and excited to go his new school. Except that whole getting there at 7:35 a.m. part. We'll see how that goes. He usually rises at 7:20, despite going to bed by 8:00, so this will be an adjustment. We need to get him to bed earlier, even though it's still bright outside at bedtime. We Bunker-Hendersons like our sleep.
I rarely post here anymore, but I really love to look back at old posts (you know, in all my free time). So I wanted to post a little more about Wyatt so I can remember what a terrific 5 year-old he is. His current hobbies are swimming, fishing, camping, art, beading, playing with playmobils, being very sweet (except when he's tired, which happens) to mommy, daddy, and sissyman. His interests are heavily focuses on science and nature. He loves to discuss being a good environmentalist (taking the stairs, because it doesn't use electricity; proclaiming that he will never drive a car because it wrecks the earth; loving animals). We do all kinds of research about space on the Interwebs. We've thoroughly researched space telescopes (like Hubble), there are dozens up there, galaxies, the Mars rovers, and countless other questions about animals and their habitats. He's recently discovered Pixar and Disney and really likes Toy Story. He spontaneously tells us that he loves us all.the.time. And often he tells Wallis that he loves her. She adores him and tells him so constantly.
He's not a great eater, he eats a fair number of healthy things, salad sandwiches and guacamole chalupas are among his favorites, but he also doesn't eat a lot of foods. When he gets treats, he eats them but never binges, and sometimes tells me to finish them for him. This is probably why he still doesn't weigh enough to sit in a booster at 5.5 years-old. He's up to a whopping 38lbs and 44 inches.
Wyatt is pretty much the best son a mom could ask for (as all moms say :-)) I'm very optimistic that he is going to enjoy school.

 |
| Wyatt sewed this hedgepig (as sissy calls it) for his baby sister. |
 |
| Wyatt and Mama enjoyed a couple days off before school starts. We went to the shark IMAX movie and Barton Springs among other places. Such fun. |
 |
| Wyatt's favorite spot was on the other side of Barton Springs, which his cousins call Barkin' Springs because of all the dogs. He looked a fished underwater. |
