I don't know know a whole lot about what is going on in kindergarten, but I understand that Wyatt may be a notorious girl chaser! I was quite surprised to hear this, but he told me that the girls and boys don't play together, and he may have gotten in trouble for chasing the girls in order to trap Hazel. Hmmm. Hope this works itself out. I have given him additional instructions about personal boundaries since I am not clear on whether Hazel welcomes all this attention. His teacher hasn't mentioned this, so I guess we are okay. Wyatt was very emphatic that he didn't know any of the girls' names and said they won't play with him even though Hazel told them that's he's nice and won't capture them. Strange stuff goes on in elementary school, I gather. Wyatt has the same teacher his 15 year-old cousin had in kindergarten, which is kind of cool. There are 18 kids in his class and there are two other kinder classes. His school has about 360 kids for grades pre-k-6, so it's a small school.
I have continued to make Wyatt's lunch since he's fairly picky. I did learn that they gave him a burrito in the cafeteria one day even though I sent a lunch. We've agreed he can buy his lunch on pizza day. I don't want to make him buy lunch every day because I loathed cafeteria food as a child. I imagine it's much better now, but I always make him very healthy and cute lunches for school so there's little reason to pay extra for food he might not eat. I have to make Wallis's lunch daily, anyway.
I do know that Wyatt seems to really like art and music. He may want to play the cello (all the "little" kids like the drums). He didn't say much about gym, except they played a game that he wasn't familiar with and it was pretty fun. He really didn't enjoy Friday assembly. Not clear on why.
Overall the transition so far has been really smooth. He hasn't really had any issues with being super tired, overwhelmed, or anxious. We've managed to get him to school on time so far. That's been a little tough. It's very nice for him to have two good friends in his class. I hope his educational career continues on this trajectory.
