The Feeding of a Wyatt

Above is a "before" picture. That was Wyatt at four-months-old when he was still in the 90% for chubiness. These are a few pictures of my long and lean Wyatt. This little guy doesn't have much pudge left. So what does he eat to get this little boy physique? A lot. This week his teacher informed me that he whines and has tantrums if the other kids are eating and he is not. They currently have six babies in this class. They each must be fed several times a day. Apparently, even if Wyatt has already eaten his meal or snack, he will immediately beg and fuss if doesn't get to eat along with the others. They have only two teachers to feed the kids so they can't usually all eat at the same time. Anyway, our son is officially a beggar/grazer. I blame Josie for teaching him this behavior. In contrast to his voracious appetite at baby school, he has gotten pickier about eating at home. Now he will actually reject food based on appearance alone. I spend hours every week preparing mini-gourmet toddler meals and this effort is not always appreciated. I think I would get a lot more appreciation from Ross if I cooked more for him. Welcome to motherhood, right? Anyway, I do not believe that he actually dislikes any foods that I have given him, but he is certainly starting to prefer sweets. I think he would live on fruit alone if I allowed it. Oh, and YoBaby (never should have bought that even once, but that's another story). But, of course, I don't let him live on fruit and YoBaby. I just continue to toil away at his little meals and take the word of his teacher when she writes "all" next to each meal I send with him. So what might he eat? He eats the same breakfast five days a week: plain oatmeal with plain whole milk yogurt, applesauce and flaxmeal on top. On Saturdays he gets a bean and egg taco from Taco Shack. Sunday, he usually has a pancake, but sometimes oatmeal again. For lunch he usually eats one of the following: a whole wheat sandwich (grilled meat and cheese, hummus, avocado, or sunbutter); chopped salad; rice, beans and cheese; quesadilla on whole wheat or corn tortilla; omelet; or steamed veggies in a light dressing. There are endless variations of these meals. For morning snack he has fruit and afternoon snack he gets a muffin or toast and milk or yogurt. It is somewhat entertaining and easy to make the little meals, but often time consuming. And he's not crazy about leftovers. Long little boy body.
Very agile (except when he's not).
I have hope that he will turn out tall, thin, and athletic like his Daddy, but we shall see.

Sounds like Wyatt enjoys a wide variety of foods, which is awesome! Seems like so many little ones only have about five things they will eat.

Rowan loves the YoBaby, too. It was one of the first few foods he would ask for by name.

Wyatt is looking more like a little boy and less like a baby all the time!
